Morning Session: Working with your administrator or teacher leader, the forcus of this forum was
building an understanding of leadership roles for the 2005-2006 school year, and to develop goals for reaching out to other
colleagues to gain an understanding of practices that will excite and engage student learning in science education.
Afternoon Session: Lesson Study.

| November 2005: Best Practices in Science Teaching |
|
This forum focused on Best Teaching Practices using the lens of How People Learn.
The perspective of teachers from other content areas enriched the discussion. The afternoon was again be devoted to
work on Lesson Study.

| December 2005: Implementing Change: Leading by Listening |
|
This LCF focused upon learning the stages of change and strategies for helping people embrace and understand change.

| January 2006: Science Notebooks and Student Self-Assessment |
This month the morning presentation included the option for additional professional development on Science Notebooks after
lunch. Following the general presentation in the morning, all participants chose between one of two options:
- Applying the new notebooking tools presented in the morning to your curriculum. This work contributes to NCOSP work to develop and publish resources to support Science Notebooks.
Continuing to work with your Lesson Study Team based on your group's needs and interests.

| February 2006: Building Relationships between Higher Education and K12 |
We are now at the halfway mark in the NCOSP grant. It is time to take stock of:
- Who we are
- What we have learned
- Where we plan to go from here
We will engage in a collaborative discussion between Teacher Leaders, Administrators,
Higher Ed Faculty, and other grant partners centered around some of the evaluation data
gathered to date. Your feedback is essential in guiding future NCOSP activities.

| March 2006: Using GLEs and Project 2061 to Understand Coherent Curriculum |

The March Learning Community Forum will focus on increasing science literacy goals and curriculum coherency through
the use of the WA State Grade Level Expectations, Benchmarks for Science Literacy, and Atlas for Science Literacy.
With guidance from Dr. Pinky Nelson, develop a better understanding of how to research learning goals at your grade level,
focus your teaching, and discover your place in the continuum of achieving science literacy for all students.
